ALL STAR PROGRAM

Newcastle Baseball All-Star Program

The Newcastle Baseball All-Star Program offers top players the opportunity to represent Newcastle in tournaments across the greater Seattle area following the conclusion of the recreational season. In these tournaments, our teams compete against Club/Select teams as well as All-Star teams from other local baseball programs.

Beyond the competition, the All-Star experience helps players develop advanced skills, build lasting friendships, create lifelong memories, and enjoy the excitement of playing baseball at a higher level.

Overview

Joining the All-Star program is a major commitment. Players and families should be prepared for an intense but rewarding experience with practices, tournaments, and team activities.

The ability to run the All-Star program depends on having enough qualified players at each age level and volunteers willing to coach the teams. Each year, the Board reviews player and coach availability and confirms the number of teams around April. We typically field All-Star teams at the 8U, 9U, 10U, and 11U levels. If there are enough players and available coaches, we may also form teams in other age groups or multiple teams within an age group.

Practices & Tournaments

High Level of Competition: Tournament play is highly competitive, and our teams are expected to train and perform at their best. Selected players must be committed to attending practices and tournaments to ensure the team is fully prepared and competitive.

Practice Schedule:

  • Teams will practice multiple times per week (1–3 times weekly), starting in early June or after the regular season ends. Practice schedules are set by each coach.
  • Practices will be held at fields similar to the regular season (e.g., Risdon, Coalfield, etc.).

Tournament Schedule:

  • Tournaments typically run Friday–Sunday from mid-June to mid/late July.
  • Games usually include two on Saturday (occasionally one on Friday night) and 1–3 on Sunday, with a single-elimination bracket.
  • Teams will participate in 2–5 tournaments, based on coaching staff decisions.
  • Most tournaments are within 60–90 minutes of Newcastle (Tacoma, Issaquah, Everett, etc.).
  • Coaches will share specific tournament details once teams are formed.

All-Star Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the practice and game schedule?
Once teams are selected, practices will start once per week and increase to multiple times per week after the Newcastle end-of-season tournament. Specific practice schedules are determined by the coaches. Tournament play typically runs on weekends from mid-June through late July.

Where are the tournaments?
Tournament locations are generally within a 60–90 minute drive of Newcastle. Common destinations include Tacoma, Issaquah, Everett, and surrounding areas. Coaches will share specific tournament schedules as they become available.

What are the costs?
We aim to keep costs as low as possible. Since the Board and coaches are volunteers, All-Star program fees primarily cover uniforms and tournament entry costs.

Uniform Costs:
Parents are responsible for purchasing two All-Star jerseys (approximately $35 each), as well as pants and socks as needed. The league will provide an All-Star cap and belt for players who are new to the program.

Tournament Fees:
Parents are responsible for all tournament fees. Estimated costs are about $55 per player per tournament, with teams typically entering 2–4 tournaments. The total cost is expected to be between $200–$300 per player. Fees are split evenly among the rostered players, regardless of tournament attendance.

After confirmation for the All-Star program, a $250 deposit will be added to each family's Newcastle Baseball portal account. After all tournaments are finalized, the deposit will be reconciled against actual expenses, and a credit or additional payment will be processed if needed.
